Anterior inferior iliac spine avulsion injury

Avulsion injuries within the pelvis can occur at six main sites. The Anterior inferior iliac spine is one of them. The straight head of the rectus femoris muscle originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine. Forceful extension at the hip joint can lead to an avulsion injury. The avulsed bony fragment may not be as obvious on the A-P radiograph. Oblique projections are helpful.
