Botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma

A botryoid rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma and accounts for 5 - 10% of all rhabdomyosarcomas 6

Epidemiology

It tends to occur in paediatric population, often between birth and 15 years of age 7.

Pathology

They manifests as a polypoid or "grape like lesion" beneath the mucosa.

They occur principally beneath a mucous membranes 3,6. Recognised sites of occurrence include:

MRI

Lesions can be large. signal characteristics are similar to rhabdomyosarcoma i.e 1

  • T1 - low to intermediate
  • T2 - high

Grapelike intraluminal masses would favour a botryoides type.
