Hypopharyngeal subsites

Dr Henry Knipe and Dr Frank Gaillard et al.

The hypopharynx is divided into three subsides for the purposes of staging (see hypopharyngeal SCC staging). Unlike staging of laryngeal SCC however, the T (tumour) staging is no subsite dependent.

The hypopharyngeal subsites are:

  1. posterior wall
  2. post cricoid/pharyngo-oesophageal junction
  3. pirform sinus
