Laryngeal sub sites

The larynx is divided into three sub sides for the purposes of staging (see staging of laryngeal SCC). They are:

  • supraglottis
    • false vocal cords
    • arytenoid cartilages
    • epiglottis, which is divided into suprahyoid and infrahyoid portions
    • aryepiglotic folds
  • glottis
    • true vocal cords
    • anterior commissure
    • posterior commissure
  • subglottis
    • from the inferior aspect of the the glottis to the first tracheal ring
