Oral cavity subsites

The oral cavity is divided into a number of subsites both anatomically and for the purposes of staging using the TNM staging system (see oral cavity SCC staging). 

  1. tongue
    • only anterior two thirds of the tongue are included
    • the posterior third is part of the oropharynx
  2. floor of mouth
  3. upper alveolar ridge
  4. lower alveolar ridge
  5. buccal mucosa
  6. retromolar trigone
  7. upper lip
  8. lower lip
  9. hard palate
