Peritoneal calcification

Peritoneal calcification is seen in a limited number of conditions that result in calcification of peritoneal structures. Therefore, the differential diagnosis is small:

psammoma bodies in malignancy (most frequently cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary) : fine sand like calcification
pseudomyxoma peritonei : often ring or arc like calcifications most numerous is the pelvis
tuberculous peritonitis
meconium peritonitis : in newborns
undifferntiated abdominal malignacies : dystrophic calcification within the tumour masses
peritoneal oil granulomas : result of intraperitoneal administration of liquid petrolium - an attempted remedy for peritoneal adhesion formation
secondary to continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)
