Peritoneal calcification

Peritoneal calcification is seen in a limited number of conditions that result in calcification of peritoneal structures. Therefore, the differential diagnosis is small:
- psammoma bodies in malignancy (most frequently cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary) : fine sand like calcification
- pseudomyxoma peritonei : often ring or arc like calcifications most numerous is the pelvis
- tuberculous peritonitis
- meconium peritonitis : in newborns
- undifferntiated abdominal malignacies : dystrophic calcification within the tumour masses
- peritoneal oil granulomas : result of intraperitoneal administration of liquid petrolium - an attempted remedy for peritoneal adhesion formation
- secondary to continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)
