Abnormal nodular enhancement of the pituitary stalk can be seen in:

- germinoma
- hypothalamic glioma
- CNS lymphoma
- pituicytoma
- granular cell tumour of the pituitary (aka pituitary choristoma)
- pilocytic astrocytoma of the neurohypophysis (aka infundibuloma)
- pituitary metastases

- CNS tuberculosis
- sequelae of meningitis
- cellular infiltrates
