Preplacental abruption

Preplacental abruption or hemorrhage can be subamniotic or subchorionic in location.

Clinical presentation

  • vaginal bleeding
  • most often painless

Symptoms may be similar to placental abruption in other locations, however, it may not have as poor a prognosis as other forms of placental abruption 

Treatment and prognosis

Complications
  • fetal demise by compression of the umbilical cord
  • preterm delivery by stimulating premature uterine contractions
