Squamous cell carcinoma in situ of the lung

Last revised by Bruno Di Muzio on 5 Jul 2019

Squamous cell carcinoma in situ (CIS) of the lung is considered a preinvasive type of non-small cell lung cancer

In some situations, this histology can also be found around the bronchial stump margin after resection of bronchial cancer, when there is presence of CIS on histology in a bronchial resection margin after resection of a lung cancer, there are some reports of association with tumor recurrence 3 while other reports suggest that CIS regresses without further treatment in a significant number of patients 4.
