Synovial thickening with hypervascularity is noted on the dorsal aspect of 1st metatarsophalangeal joint.
Typical findings in gout, such as cortical erosions or periarticular soft tissue deposits, were not noted.
Case Discussion
Synovitis is a non-specific finding. It can be due to infection, inflammation (systemic disease), or trauma.
Classic ultrasound findings in chronic gout include marginal cortical erosions and periarticular soft tissue deposits (tophi).
