What are the two main types of vein of Galen malformation and how do they differ in presentation and demographics?
The choroidal type, presents in the neonatal period with high output cardiac failure (this case). In the older child (infant / childhood) a mural type is more common which typically presents with hydrocephalus.
A very large vascular structure is located in the pineal region with aneurysmal dilatation. It receives blood predominantly from the vertebral arteries although some anterior supply is also suspected. Drainage is to the torcula and bilaterally to the internal jugular veins.
