There is a minimally displaced fracture through the ulnar corner of the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb. This demonstrates intra-articular extension.
The appearances, in conjunction with the provided clinical history, suggests avulsion injury of the ulnar collateral ligament of the first metacarpophalangeal joint.
Case Discussion
Gamekeeper thumb is the eponymous name given to avulsion or rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb. It is also known as skier's thumb.
