Amniotic band syndrome

Presentation:

Female infant 21 months of age with leg deformity since birth.

Modality: X-ray

Case Discussion:

There is mid diaphyseal convergent bowing of the tibia and fibular with synostosis over a 2.5cm length.  There is associated concentric soft tissue contraction overlying this region.

Appearances are those of amniotic band syndrome the result of in utero entrapment of the limb by a fibrous amniotic band.
