Neural tube defects affect 2.6 percent per 1000 of births with spina bifida and anencephaly accounts 95% of all NTD'S

Anencephaly is absent of cranial bones and exposed rudimentary brain tissue. Polyhydroaminos is  commonly associated with anencephaly due to  absence of pituitary control over urine formation.

Anencephaly is prevalent in low socio-economic strata due to lack of  folic acid supplementation during pregnancy.
