Anterior and posterior cruciate ligament mucoid degeneration

There is mucoid degeneration of the ACL and PCL, with intra-articular ganglion cysts. Other findings: - moderate-severe diffuse synovitis. - extensive medial meniscal tear, with advanced degenerative changes in the medial compartment. - patellofemoral chondromalacia, worst laterally where there is a chondral flap.
Case Discussion
Although it is not uncommon to see mucoid degeneration of the ACL, mucoid degeneration of both the ACL and PCL is less well described.
Mucoid degeneration of the PCL is typically not associated with ligamentous instability.
