Apical non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (Yamaguchi hypertrophy)

Presentation

Chronic smoker presents with recurrent chest pain and dyspnea.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

Marked myocardial hypertrophy of left lateral ventricle is seen, with marked myocardial thickening at apex, and significant narrowing during systole.

Case Discussion

Electrocardiogram (ECG) of the patient showed giant negative 'T' wave, with 2-D echo features suggestive of apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (also known as Yamaguchi syndrome).
