Appendicitis with diverticulosis

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right sided abdominal pain for the last few days

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Appendix  - a blind ended, tubular, aperistaltic strucuture is noted, exiting from cecum.

Base - about 10 mm long - shows normal diameter ( < 6 mm ).

Rest of the appendix shows dilated lumen with in poorly compressible.

Appendix is retrocecal, with tip near lower pole of right kidney.

Alteast 4 diverticuli are noted from distal part of the appendix, measuring upto 10 mm. Defect is noted in muscle layer  at neck of diverticuli. No changes of diverticulitis is seen in any of the them.

Few reactive local nodes were present.

Cecum, terminal ilium - normal.

No local free fluid.

Findings favor appendicitis with diverticulosis without diverticulitis.
