Avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal styloid (Pseudo-Jones)

Presentation

Fall with forced inversion, pain in region of the fifth metatarsal

Patient Data

Age: 40 years

There is an intra-articular avulsion fracture of the base of the 5th metatarsal, associated with with adjacent soft tissue swelling. The mid foot alignment is normal. Joint spaces are maintained.

Case Discussion

This  fracture is located too proximal and reaches the articular surface, and is therefore not a Jones fracture.
