Biliary microlithiasis

Case contributed by: Dr Bruno Di Muzio

Patient Data:

Age: 73
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian
Modality: CT

Gallstones are less than 3.0 mm

Case Discussion:

The term ‘biliary microlithiasis’ was coined to describe gallstones of <3 mm in diameter.

Data showing that small gallstones carry a higher risk for causing pancreatitis than large ones support the possible role of biliary microlithiasis in causing this disorder.
