Brachycephaly
Case contributed by:
Dr Maxime St-Amant
Presentation:
Abnormal head shape.
Patient Data:
Age: 7 months
Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian
From the case:
Brachycephaly
Modality:
CT
CT-scan shows bilateral coronal sutures synostosis. Lambdoid sutures aren't prematurely closed in this patient. However, the bi-parietal diameter to fronto-occipital diameter ratio approaches the 95th centile, with a rounded head shaped. This is compatible with brachycephaly.
Case Discussion:
Other types of craniostenosis:
- scaphocephaly: sagittal craniostenosis
- plagiocephaly: unilateral asymmetric or multiple craniostenosis
- oxycephaly: lambdoid, sagittal & coronal craniostenoses
- turricephaly (towering skull): bilambdoid or bicoronal craniostenosis
- brachycephaly: bilambdoid or bicoronal craniostenosis
- Kleeblattschädel (cloverleaf skull): bicoronal and bilambdoid craniostenosis
