Calcified pleural plaques

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis certain
x-ray

Ill-defined opacities over both mid and lower zones.

Over the diaphragmatic domes, linear regions of calcification are noted.

ct

Selected images from a CT of the chest confirm the presence of numerous heavily calcified pleural plaques particularly over the anterolateral aspects of the parietal pleura. A number of non-calcified plaques are seen posteriorly. On the images provided the costophrenic angles appear spared as does the mediastinal pleura.
