Colloid nodule : thyroid

Case contributed by: Dr Charudutt Jayant Sambhaji
Modality: Ultrasound

Case Discussion:

The images show a hyperplastic thyroid nodule in the left lobe with extensive liquefactive denegeneration resulting in a thick walled cystic lesion with intracystic residual tissue in the form of pheripheral solid/ cystic nodules that were avascular.

The cystic nodule shows multiple bright foci with Comet-tail artifacts likely due the presence of microcrystals a classical feature of colloid nodule.

Also, noted are left level III lymph nodes with indeterminate morphology, while doppler analysis of the same favouring benignity. Histopathology revealed reactive lymphadenopathy.
