Presentation

Chronic atrophic pancreatitis. Common bile duct stent placed.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Moderate intrahepatic biliary ductal dilatation; dilatation of the common bile duct up to 16 mm. There is a common bile duct stent which is stable.

Stable pancreatic ductal dilatation with generalized atrophy of the pancreas.

Right upper quadrant drainage catheter is in place with no significant residual perihepatic fluid collection.

Case Discussion

Biliary stents are used to treat and relieve obstruction of the biliary tree. The stents can be metallic or plastic and can be used to treat benign or malignancy conditions of the biliary tract. A common bile duct stent is placed in this patient to relieve the obstruction related to a chronic atrophic pancreas.
