Presentation
Left knee pain and limitation of movement following twisting injury during basketball game
Patient Data
Rupture of mid fibers of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), anterior tibial translation with redundant patellar tendon, buckled yet intact posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), a small vertical tear of posterior horn of lateral meniscus, marrow contusion of the lateral femoral and tibial condyles and moderate joint effusion.
Case Discussion
Diagnosis of ACL tear is made by detection of primary and secondary signs. Primary sign includes discontinuity and abnormal signal of ACL fibers and secondary signs include PCL buckling, anterior tibial translation, uncovered PHLM, empty notch sign, bone bruise and Segond fracture.
