T1 pre and post-contrast images and SWI images demonstrate and linear abnormal venous structure on left enhancing with contrast giving an appearance of a caput medusae sign. Typical appearance of developmental venous anomalies. No associated cavernoma in this case.
Case Discussion
A developmental venous anomaly (DVA), is a congenital malformation of veins that drain the brain. They are characterized by the caput medusae sign of veins draining into a single larger collecting vein, which in turn drains into either a dural sinus or into a deep ependymal vein.
