Presentation

Pain and swelling at both wrists since this morning after he slipped and fell on a flexed wrist, on examination: the right wrist shows mild swelling hotness, and tenderness over the dorsal side with small abrasion at the right hand, left wrist shows moderate swelling hotness and tenderness mainly over the radial side of the wrist.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

A distal radial fracture is seen bilaterally with intra-articular extension.

Dorsal displacement of the distal fragments.

Bilateral capito-hamate coalition.

Case Discussion

Capitohamate coalition represents ~5% of all carpal fusions and is associated with Apert syndrome.

Capitohamate coalition is a congenital disorder, mostly asymptomatic, and is incidentally discovered.
