Patient Data

Age: 3 years
Gender: Female

Bilateral symmetrical think band of grey matter is seen deep to and running parallel to the cerebral cortex, simulating the double cortex sign. Overlying cortex exhibits mild shallowness of the sulci, however agyria/pachygyria are not seen.

Periventricular deep white matter posteriorly shows small cystic spaces, may represent prominent VR spaces along the deep medullary vessels.

Case Discussion

MRI findings are in keeping with sub-cortical heterotopia (SCH) of the band/laminar heterotopia variety, possibly associated with lissencephaly type 1 heterotopia spectrum.
