Emphysematous cystitis

Presentation:

Unwell with delirium. Known type 2 diabetes.

Age: 75
Gender: Female

Abdominal Xray

Modality: X-ray
Modality: Ultrasound

Case Discussion:

Rim of gas lucency outlining the wall of the bladder consistent with emphysematous cystitis. Ultrasound, which was performed to assess the upper renal tract, shows artefact from bladder wall gas (echogenic rim with dirty posterior shadowing).
