Epidermal inclusion cyst: sole of foot

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Farmer by occupation. Sole of midfoot nodule for 5 months. History of local penetrating injury by thorn.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a well-defined ovoid lesion in region of interest.

Size: 14 x 10 x 8 mm

Location: Subcutaneous plane, abuts skin. Separate from bone, muscle, plantar fascia.

Morphology: Lesion is hypoechoic without cystic changes / calcification / vascularity. There is well- defined wall around lesion. There is posterior acoustic enhancement.

Case Discussion

There is a post-traumatic, avascular, encapsulated lesion in sole of the midfoot. Surgical excision was performed, and the histopathological diagnosis was an epidermal inclusion cyst.
