Familial hyperlipidemia with premature coronary artery disease

Case Discussion:

A 19 year old male with familial hyperlipidemia screened for premature coronary artery disease. Cardiac coronary CT was performed in prospective protocol as the patient is young to decrease the radiation exposure to the patient. A noticed is made of premature coronary artery disease in the form of a soft plaque at the origin of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) without a significant stenosis. A premature atherosclerotic calcifications are also demonstrated in the aortic root or sinus of Valsalva.
