Focal fatty sparing in steatosis hepatis

Case contributed by Dr Roberto Schubert

Upper abdominal pain, elevated liver enzymes.

Patient Data:

Age: 50
Gender: Male

CT abdomen

Modality: CT

Pre and post contrast CT through the liver demonstrates a region of apparent hyperattenuation which does not however have mass effect. This is on the background of extensive diffuse hepatic steatosis.

Case Discussion:

Typical appearances of focal fatty sparing, involving the gallbladder fossa; a typical location.
