Foreign body in foot

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

C/o recurrent pus discharge + swelling on medial aspect of mid foot. H/O penetrating injury by a wood splinter locally - 3 mths back.

Patient Data

Age: 60 - 70 yrs
Gender: Male
x-ray

Soft tissue swelling is noted in mid foot medially.

No bony erosion / periosteal reaction  noted.

ultrasound

Linear echogenic focus is noted in region of interest - Foreign body.

Length - 40 mm    Thickness - 2 - 3 mm

Superficial end - 4 mm deep to skin ( Near skin swelling ).

Deep end - 13 mm deep to skin.

 Orientation - From entry point to medial mallelus direction.

 Plane : Superficial end - In subcuteous plane.  Rest of it - In muscle.

 Foreign body granuma with vascularity is noted locally.
