Cirrhotic liver without suspicious focal lesions, splenomegaly, and prominent collateral venous circulation around the distal esophagus. 

Case Discussion

Spontaneous portal-systemic collateral pathways (also called varices) develop via enlargement of preexisting anastomoses between the portal and systemic venous system.
