These dense transverse metaphyseal bands are from alternating growth arrest and then growth resumption in this patient with a systemic chronic illness.
Case Discussion
Growth arrest lines (or "growth resumption lines") are patterns of parallel sclerotic transverse metaphyseal bands in long bones. The differential for this appearance is long, but after a thorough workup, these lines were thought to be due to the patient's cerebral palsy and multiple lower extremity surgical interventions.
