Presentation
Headaches.
Patient Data
A peripherally enhancing mass in the left cerebellar hemisphere is surrounded by edema and exerts a significant mass effect with early hydrocephalus.
Case Discussion
The patient went on to have a resection.
Histology
Microscopic Description:
Sections show a moderately cellular neoplasm that is well circumscribed from the adjacent cerebellar tissue. There are many thin-walled blood vessels of various sizes, separated by sheets of polygonal stromal cells with pleomorphic nuclei and abundant foamy cytoplasm. Rare mitoses are present. There are focal areas of necrosis and sclerosis that are possibly ischemic in nature.
Final Diagnosis:
Cerebellar lesion, excision: hemangioblastoma.
