A perfectly straight line traverses the lower left thoracic cavity due to a combination of fluid and air in the pleural space.
Right lung clear.
Case Discussion
Hemo or hydropneumothoraces are due to a combination of blood or other fluid along with air in the pleural space.
Trauma and thoracic intervention are the usual culprits.
Unlike in a pleural effusion with a lateral meniscus, when air and fluid is combined the appearances are perfectly straight in the horizontal plane due to the air-fluid level.
