Hand abscess

Presentation

Post-traumatic swelling on the dorsal aspect of the hand for the last few weeks. Radiograph of hand negative for a fracture.

Patient Data

Age: about 35 - 40 yrs
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Collection with mobile echoes on the palmer as well as dorsal side of hand. Communicating tract passes between 3rd and 4th metacarpal bones. A linear echogenic focus (28 mm length, 1 to 2 mm thick) in the collection on the palmer side.

Findings of hand abscess due to the foreign body which looks like a thorn/wood splinter.
