Huge ureteric transitional cell carcinoma

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Right flank pain.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

CT demonstrates a very large right sided ureteric mass with trapped contrast, which almost mimics a vascular aneurysm, and proximal long standing hydronephrosis.

Note that the images were obtained with a 30 minute delay due to machine malfunction - as such the parenchyma appears to be 'non-contrast' despite the presence of some contrast in the collecting system on the left.

Case Discussion

The mass was confirmed to be a transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) when the patient had a nephroureterectomy.
