Presentation
Heavy smoker underwent cardiac catheterization for atypical chest pain. Now complains of pale cold left foot.
Patient Data
The left external iliac artery is completely occluded shortly after its origin. The thrombus protrudes into the arterial lumen giving meniscus sign appearance. It extends to the common femoral and proximal 2/3 segment of the superficial femoral artery. The distal 1/3 segment is supplied by collateral flow from the internal iliac to profunda femoris arterial anastomosis.
Case Discussion
The angiography sheath is still inside the patient's thigh. The patient developed symptoms 1 day after cardiac catheterization was done. Complications of invasive angiographic techniques include arterial dissection, perforation or thrombosis, contrast reaction, wound infection and renal damage.
