Interphalangeal joint dislocation

Case contributed by Mostafa Elfeky
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Left index finger trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

Dorsal subluxation of the distal phalanx of the index finger seen on lateral view, in keeping with distal interphalangeal joint dislocation.

Case Discussion

Note that the dislocation is completely occult in the frontal radiograph. It is important for dislocations and fractures to be examined in at least 2 views.

Isolated dislocation affecting the distal interphalangeal joint is less common than proximal interphalangeal joint.
