Intestinal malrotation

Case contributed by: Dr Frank Gaillard

Patient Data:

Age: Child
Modality: X-ray

Case Discussion:

Barium meal and follow through in a 6 year old with repeated bouts of vomiting demonstrates abnormal distribution of the small bowel. The duodenum fails to cross the midline and DJ flexure is located to the right of the midline and at the level of L3. From there the small bowel is curled in the right side of the abdomen, with colon on the left.

Features are consistent with malrotation.
