Presentation
Abdominal pain.
Patient Data
A heterogeneous enhancing mass is noted involving the abdominal segment of the inferior vena cava, extending from a level opposite L1/2 through L3/4. It is encroaching upon the IVC lumen at these levels with anterior extraluminal soft tissue component and no thrombus formation.
Diffuse aortic atherosclerotic changes.
An interstitial leiomyoma is also noted.
Case Discussion
Pathology proved IVC sarcoma.
IVC sarcomas are more common in females. They can predispose to lower limb deep venous thrombosis. For tumors with an extraluminal component, CT-guided core needle biopsy can be done for tissue diagnosis
