Lobar pneumonia - CT findings

Presentation

Smoker with chest pain, fever and cough. Clinicans are worried about CXR ? cancer

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Male

Solid appearing left upper lobe without collapse including the lingula with patent bronchi (air bronchograms). Reactive mediastinal lymph nodes. Lung is so dense it has the appearnce of liver - so-called "hepatisation"

Case Discussion

Community acquired lobar pneumonia is usually due to Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) or Haemophilus influenzae
