Mandibular fracture

Presentation

Presented to the emergency department the morning after being assaulted by an unknown number of assailants. On examination he had swelling to the left jaw and marked tenderness across the mandible.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Fractures through the left angle and right body of the mandible.

Case Discussion

As a ring structure, injuries to the mandible commonly (but not always) occur as a pair. If a single injury is identified, search hard for the second if not immediately obvious.
