Missed DCIS microcalcifications

Presentation:

70 years old.

Patient Data:

Age: 70
Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian

Original mammogram

Modality: Mammography

Mammography (report BIRADS 1). Further assessment with ultrasound recommended on the grounds of dense fibroglandular tissue. 

Mammograms only available on CD-ROM (JPEG) were re-evaluated and properly processed, revealing the presence of multiple foci of microcalcifications.

Previous screening mammograms to compare aren't available . 

Workup targeted mammograms

Patient  underwent targeted magnification mammograms properly processed  that reveals multiple foci of microcalcifications bilaterally. 

Case Discussion:

This patient was referred to a breast surgeon after MRI (not shown). Histology was DCIS multicentric, multifocal, bilateral.
