Patient Data:

Case Discussion:

This 76 year old lady presents with pain in right hip and knee 10 years after total hip replacement.

Released cement particles trigger the release of inflammatory mediators. Local accumulation of inflammatory mediatiors produces a local giant cell granulomatous reaction and leads to osteolysis and formation of cystic change in adjacent bone. This process is referred to as particle disease, and is a significant cause of revision surgery.
