Prostatic abscess

Presentation

Difficulty in passing urine.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male

Transrectal

ultrasound

The prostate is enlarged measuring 42 x 42 x 38 mm - volume approximately 37 cc.

A lobulated hypoechoic area with mobile internal echoes is noted involving the right side of the gland. It causes contour bulge towards the rectum. Size - 30 x 29 x 24 mm - 11 cc.

Peripheral zone is normal.

No calcification focus is seen.

No periprostatic collection is seen.

Power Doppler - perilesional vascularity.

Prostatic urethra shows normal appearance without calculus.

Seminal vesicles - present bilaterally.

Vas deferens - present bilaterally.

Findings very much suggest an abscess in the prostate gland.
