Pulmonary hamartoma

Presentation:

Incidentally detected solitary pulmonary lesion on chest radiograph during a geriatric check up

Race: Indian/Pakistani
Modality: X-ray
Modality: CT

Contrast CT revealed a lobulated >2cm size lesion with central and eccentric popcorn calcification within suggestive of a benign etiology like pulmonary hamartoma

Case Discussion:

A pulmonary hamartoma is a benign neoplasm composed of normal but disorganised lung tissues, with variable components of cartilage, connective tissue, muscle, fat, and bone. It is one of the commonest benign tumours of the lung and accounts for approximately 8% of all lung neoplasms and 6% of solitary pulmonary nodules.
