Arising from the pituitary fossa is a rounded hyperdense mass which does not convincingly enhance following contrast administration. 

MRI pituitary

MRI demonstrates the mass to be well circumscribed, with intrinsic high T1 signal and no enhancement. On T2 weighted images the mass appear of high signal with a prominent inferior low intensity 'dot'. 

The optic chiasm is elevated and compressed.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates classic appearances of Rathke cleft cyst including the near-pathognomonic 'dot' of non-enhancing material within the cyst.
