Rectus sheath haematoma

Presentation:

Acute left lower quadrant pain

Patient Data:

Age: 84
Gender: Female
Modality: CT

No oral or IV contrast as patient in renal failure.

Haematoma containing a fluid-fluid level indicating liquid blood - note gas in the subcutaneous fat of the right abdominal wall due to subcutaneous fragmin injections (arrow).  In virtually all cases of this condition there is use of an anticogulant and the haematomas can become extremely large.
